The new code is related to the use of endomicroscopy during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

“The creation of a new CPT code for biliary tract endomicroscopy is excellent news for patients with biliary strictures, representing a significant level of recognition for its applications in this area,” said David L. Carr-Locke, MD, director of GI services at Continuum Cancer Centers of New York.

The Category III CPT code, 039X7T, will go into effect Jan. 1, 2016.
