Here are five gastroenterologists that made headlines this past week:

Bishr Omary, MD, PhD, is joining the American Gastroenterological Association Institute's board as its vice president, effective in June 2018.

Becker's ASC Review  spoke with Miami-based Gastro Health President James Leavitt, MD, on the importance of fighting burnout, market competition and what's in store for the booming practice in the new year.

GI surgeon-turned-entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD, reached a deal to buy The Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Newark-based GI Specialists of Delaware gastroenterologist Michael Bass, MD, became a partner at Wilmington, Del.-based Limestone Surgical Center.
