New York City-based Manhattan Gastroenterology’s Shawn Khodadadian, MD, issued a PSA about the dangers of ignoring rectal bleeding.

Here’s what you should know:

1. Dr. Khodadadian cautions bleeding shouldn’t be ignored because of the several different issues associated with it including: hemorrhoids, colitis, anal fissures and colorectal or colon cancer.

2. Dr. Khodadadian recommends patients undergo diagnostic tests after an instance of bleeding.

3, Dr. Khodadadian earned his medical degree from New York City-based SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed an internship, residency and fellowship at New York City-based Lenox Hill Hospital.
