Dr. Mauricio Garcia Saenz de Sicilia appointed UAMS chief of gastroenterology and hepatology

Mauricio Garcia Saenz de Sicilia, MD, has been appointed as the chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology and as an associate professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences department of internal medicine.

Dr. Garcia worked at UAMS from 2013 to 2020 before leaving to join the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis as an associate professor, according to a July 25 university press release. 

Dr. Garcia received his medical degree and did his residency in Mexico before working at the University of Nebraska Medical Center from 2011 to 2013. 

Previously, he worked at UAMS as the director of the primary liver tumors clinic in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology and as the co-director of gastroenterology and hepatology services. 

“Coming back to UAMS represents a chance to build the foundation for the future of academic gastroenterology and hepatology in Arkansas by improving access to high-quality care and being a main point of referral for the community,” Dr. Garcia said in the press release.
