The commission is hoping to help build key relationships and create equitable opportunities for women of all levels in the Philadelphia workforce.

Here are four thoughts:

1. Dr. Rashid Hossain is an assistant professor of clinical medicine and a gastroenterologist at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

2. The commission has 27 members; 10 were appointed by the mayor and 17 were appointed by members of the City Council. Although there have been other commissions established by executive order, this will be the first permanent council.

3. Dr. Hossain said it was an honor to be appointed by the mayor. She is hoping to use the position to make a difference in the lives of Philadelphia’s women.

4. Dr. Hossain has been honored with the Health Care Heroes Award from Penn Medicine and the Radhika Srinivasan Award for Humanism and Professionalism at the division of Gastroenterology at Penn Medicine.
