This award is the AGA’s highest honor and recognizes a physician for lifelong contribution to gastroenterology. Dr. Keeffe was a world-renowned hepatologist, a professor of medicine emeritus at Stanford University in hepatology, medical fellow at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, past president of AGA and a former member of the board of directors of the American Liver Foundation.
Dr. Keefee died in August after a sudden illness. The award will be presented at Digestive Disease Week in 2012 in San Diego, Calif. The AGA Research Foundation has also created the AGA-Emmet B. Keeffe Award in Translational or Clinical Research in Liver Disease in his honor. The award will support young physician investigators working in liver disease research.
