Rochester, Minn.-based The Mayo Clinic included gastroenterologist Albert Czaja, MD, in its 2016 Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Awards.

1. Dr. Czaja is an emeritus professor of medicine and an emeritus consultant in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Mayo Clinic.

2. Dr. Czaja retired from practice in 2007, but is a renowned researcher.

3. Dr. Czaja is a leading authority on autoimmune liver disease and has made several significant contributions to understanding autoimmune hepatitis including writing most of the clinical guidelines on the treatment.

According to a release, “With his colleagues at Mayo Clinic, he defines what remains the current standard of treatment for this disorder.”
