The National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable is leading a movement to screen 80 percent of adults 50 years and older for colorectal cancer by the end of 2018.
Here are six things to know.
1. More than 1,500 organizations joined the NCCR's "80% by 2018" initiative, which the organization will now call the "80% Pledge."
2. Columbus, Ohio-based Taylor Station Surgical Center committed to the initiative in 2017.
3. Achieving an 80 percent screening rate by 2018 would prevent 277,000 cases and 203,000 colorectal cancer deaths by 2030, according to a 2015 study.
4. Colorectal cancer screening rates in community health centers have increased more than 5 percent since the initiative was launched.
5. Thirty-four organizations have reported reaching an 80 percent colorectal cancer screening rate.
6. The NCCR plans to transition to a new campaign in 2019 and is seeking feedback for future initiatives.
