The researchers found that colonoscopy screening IBD patients within the previous three years reduced the odds of colorectal cancer development by 35 percent. Screening also reduced the risk of death if cancer does develop by 50 percent.

The results of the study serve to support previously unsupported guidelines on colonoscopy surveillance in IBD.
