Cleveland Clinic Children’s is expanding treatment and monitoring options for pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis, including biologic therapy and minimally invasive tools.
Clinicians are using dupilumab, approved in 2022, for patients who do not respond to standard therapies. In a phase 3 trial of children ages 1 to 11, the drug achieved a 68% histologic remission rate, according to an April 14 system news release.
The clinic has also adopted transnasal endoscopy, introduced in 2023, which enables esophageal exams and biopsies without sedation in less than 10 minutes. Additional tools are in development, including a string-based test that collects esophageal samples over about an hour to assess inflammation.
The clinic uses a multidisciplinary model spanning gastroenterology, allergy and nutrition to tailor care as options expand.
