Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh adds Dr. Andrew Feranchak as pediatric GI chief — 3 insights

Liver disease expert Andrew Feranchak, MD, was appointed Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's chief of pediatric gastroenterology, TribLive reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. He comes to Pittsburgh from Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he directed the pediatric gastroenterology division since 2011.

2. Dr. Feranchak is interested in researching bile formation mechanisms, biliary secretion and liver cell volume regulations.

3. After earning his medical degree from Pittsburgh-based Pitt Medical School, he completed a residency at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and a fellowship at Boulder-based University of Colorado.
