The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure restricted the license of Corbin, Ky.-based gastroenterologist Morris Wilson Beebe III, MD, through an emergency order issued Nov. 30, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Beebe was arrested Aug. 26 and indicted in November on charges of cocaine, heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession. He pleaded not guilty.
2. In a car Dr. Beebe was driving, an officer reportedly found one syringe loaded with brown liquid, two bags containing white powder, marijuana and crack cocaine, 15 to 20 empty syringes and 15 to 20 empty crack pipes.
3. Dr. Beebe said the drugs and paraphernalia didn't belong to him. At the time of the arrest, he was reportedly with a woman. Police have not located the woman since she exited the car to enter a convenience store.
4. The medical board's emergency order prohibits Dr. Beebe from prescribing or dispensing drugs until the case is resolved. He has been a licensed physician in Kentucky since 1983.
5. In court documents, one of Dr. Beebe's attorneys said he is in a drug treatment program.
