ASGE, AGA and ACG Release 2012 CPT Code Updates

The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology released a document outlining changes to CPT codes for 2012.

The document outlines new and modified codes as well as provides guidance on new Physician Quality Reporting System measures for 2012, new ICD-9 codes and preparation for ICD-10, the Relative Value Scale Update Committee survey process, common GI billing and coding questions and Medicare e-prescribing incentives.

Additions to CPT codes include new codes for abdominal paracentesis with or without imaging guidance and peritoneal lavage including imaging guidance. Modifications include adding time components to initial observation care and revising codes for two-dimensional or three-dimensional esophageal manometry studies performed without pressure topography.
