Applications for AI in gastroenterology will increase in the next 5 to 10 years, GI physician says

Artificial intelligence used in tandem with endoscopy can help physicians treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease, according to a report from the American Gastroenterological Association Tech Summit, which took place this month in San Francisco.

Key takeaways:

1. AI and computer algorithms could help cut physician errors by helping physicians with repetitive tasks, said Sushovan Guha, MD, PhD, in an interview at the summit.

2. Because computers can manage and analyze lots of data, they can help physicians predict gastroenterological bleeding and then target therapy for patients.

3. Dr. Guha said he expects applications for AI in gastroenterology to increase in the next five to 10 years.
