Fifty-two projects received a total of more than $3 million in funding courtesy of the American Gastroenterological Association Research Foundation.

What you should know:

1. The AGA Research Foundation recently unveiled the recipients of its AGA Research Foundation Awards Program.

2. AGA Research Foundation Chair Robert Sandler, MD, said the awardees were "some of the most innovative and promising early-stage investigators working in the field of gastroenterology."

3. Forty percent of the 2019 class is performing clinical research, and the class is diverse. Some 44 percent of awardees are female, and 8 percent are from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups in healthcare.
