AGA releases statement on Trump's US travel ban: 3 key facts

The American Gastroenterological Association released a statement on President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration, banning travel to seven Middle Eastern countries.

Here's what you should know:

1. The AGA believes the ban could limit scientific exchange, delay patient care and impair medical training.

2. Advocates of diversity, the AGA believes in showcasing scientists and research from around the world in its journals through its programs or at Digestive Disease Week. In its statement, the AGA states,"this exchange leads to better patient care, and very sick patients travel to the United States from around the world for the best digestive healthcare."

3. The AGA concluded the statement by adding its voice to the several professional organizations asking President Trump's administration "to consider the devastating impact of the executive order on the health of the nation that will result from turning away patients, health professionals and researchers. The recent immigration policy is clearly detrimental to America's leadership role in advancing healthcare, and to the standing of the United States within the international community."
