AGA, other societies express concerns about alternate payment model adoption to CMS: 4 notes

The American Gastroenterological Association participated in a roundtable discussion with CMS.

Here are four notes:

1. The roundtable gave the AGA, other medical specialty societies and physician groups the opportunity to meet with Andy Slavitt, acting CMS administrator.

2. The AGA expressed concerns regarding the adoption of specialty Alternative Payment Models in the Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act of 2015 proposed rule.

3. Many specialty groups, including AGA, have already implemented APMs in the commercial market and are urging CMS to allow these APMs to be eligible for the Medicare program.

4. Lawrence R. Kosinski, MD, MBA, practice councilor at the AGA Institute and a member of the Illinois Gastroenterology Group in Elgin, also participated in the meeting. He discussed population health and value-based payments' importance under APMs.
