The AGA said in the release it has long advocated for a long-term solution to the broken Medicare physician payment formula and has been part of the lobbying telling Congress to enact a permanent fix to the sustainable growth rate formula.
The AGA joins several other state medical societies and specialty physician societies in signing the TMA’s “Stop the Medicare Meltdown” petition, according to the release. TMA is attempting to get 1 million signatures in support of changing the physician payment system.
“We need more than Band-Aids,” TMA President William H. Fleming III, MD, said in a news release from the association. “We need more than sutures. We need a complete transplant. This is all about Medicare patients’ access to physicians’ care. Congress created this problem, and only Congress can fix it.”
