AGA Calls for More Transparency From CMS

Carrie Pallardy -

The American Gastroenterological Association has been working with its sister GI societies to advocate for more transparency from CMS since the release of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, which included reimbursement cuts to upper GI endoscopy services.

What is being done?

•    GI society representatives are meeting with CMS to understand the reimbursement cuts.
•    GI society representatives are lobbying on Capitol Hill to gain more transparency from CMS
•    The GI societies are working with Rep. Bill Cassidy (R.-La.) to urge CMS to publish changes to physician values.

Results thus far

•    Democratic members of the House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce. Committees recently sent a letter to CMS asking the agency to allow physicians to comment on proposed changes.

The AGA encourages all of its members to reach out to their representatives.
