The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association selected Amit Singal, MD, as its 2017 Blue Faery Award winner, the Digital Journal reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The award honors a researcher dedicated to fighting hepatocellular carcinoma.

2. Dr. Singal is Dallas-based UT Southwestern's clinical chief of hepatology and liver tumor program medical director.

3. He is leading several projects to evaluate interventions focused on improving early tumor detection among patients with cirrhosis.

4. Dr. Singal has published several book chapters and more than 100 peer-reviewed papers on HCC.
