The researchers analyzed a database that represents the U.S. commercially insured population. Of the 35,575,388 individuals 16,405 had at least one code for EoE.
• The mean age for EoE was 33.5 years
• 65 percent of EoE patients were male
• 35 percent of EoE patients were female
• 55.8 percent of EoE patients had dysphagia
• 52.8 percent of EoE patients had a diagnostic code for at least one allergic condition
• Estimated prevalence of EoE in the United States is 56.7 per 100,000 persons
• Prevalence peaks in men 35 to 39 years old, with a rate of 114.6 cases per 100,000 persons
