5 of the largest GI groups to know

Private equity and corporate buyers have turned gastroenterology into one of the most consolidated specialties in outpatient care. 

Here are five of the largest GI groups to know:

1. GI Alliance

Southlake, Texas-based GI Alliance is one of the nation’s largest gastroenterology platforms, with more than 900 physicians across 345-plus sites in 20 states Cardinal Health acquired a majority stake in GI Alliance in 2025 for $2.8 billion, following an earlier $785 million investment from Apollo Global Management. Founder and CEO James Weber, MD, leads the company, which grows mainly through partnerships with independent practices.

2. Gastro Health

Miami-based Gastro Health has more than 400 physicians and operates over 150 locations, with a strong presence in ASCs and endoscopy centers across Florida, Ohio and Virginia. Omers Private Equity acquired the company in 2021, when it had more than 250 physicians. Gastro Health is expanding its ASC footprint through joint ventures and de novo development in urban and suburban markets. Alan Oliver became CEO in November 2024, and Eugenio Hernandez, MD, was named chief medical officer in January 2025.

3. U.S. Digestive Health

Exton, Pa.-based U.S. Digestive Health has more than 250 GI providers across more than 40 locations and 24 ASCs in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Optum’s SCA Health bought U.S Digestive Health Management from Amulet in January 2025. Amulet formed U.S. Digestive Health with member physicians in 2019.

4. United Digestive

Atlanta-based United Digestive manages more than 80 locations with 129 physicians across the Southeast. Kohlberg & Co. acquired the platform from Frazier Healthcare Partners in 2023 for $500 million, and Ares Management is also a backer. In October 2025, United Digestive added Gastro MD and Gastroenterology of Greater Orlando.

5. One GI

Brentwood, Tenn.-based One GI supports 195 physicians across 65 locations. Webster Equity Partners formed the management services organization in 2020 through a partnership with Gastro One. Its partner practices include Skyline Gastroenterology in Tennessee and Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater in Chesapeake, Va. Christa Newton was named CEO in 2023.
