The new MOC requirements apply to all board-certified physicians, including physicians who hold time-unlimited certifications.
• Physicians board-certified before 1990: Board-certification is valid indefinitely, but physicians will have to participate in the MOC program to be reported as “meeting MOC requirements.”
• Physicians board-certified after 1990 and enrolled in MOC program: Board-certification will be reported until current certification expires. Physicians will have to indicate certification they would like to maintain by March 31.
• Physicians board-certified after 1990 and not enrolled in MOC program: Board-certification will be reported until current certification expires. Physicians will have to indicate certification they would like to maintain by March 31 and completed a MOC-approved activity by Dec. 31, 2015.
• Newly board-certified physicians: Validity of certification depends up meeting MOC requirements at two, five and 10 year marks.
