A significant proportion of the United States population, 20 percent, experiences reflux symptoms at least weekly, according to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse Digestive Disease Statistics for the United States report. •    Hospitalizations: 487,000 (2010)
•    Prescriptions: 938,000 (2004)
•    Mortality: 11,033 deaths (2011)
