1. Gastroenterologists were among the richest physicians: 14 percent had a net worth greater than $5 million, and 38 percent had a net worth of $2 million or more.
2. Over a quarter — 27 percent — of surveyed gastroenterologists had a net worth under $500,000.
3. Only 12 percent of surveyed gastroenterologists were still paying off student loans, the smallest percentage of any specialty.
4. Only 4 percent of gastroenterologists reported living above their means, with nearly half — 49 percent — living below their means.
