4 insights on new International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus President Dr. Prateek Sharma

The International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus named Kansas City-based University of Kansas Cancer Center gastroenterologist Prateek Sharma, MD as its new president. Four insights:

1. Dr. Sharma earned his medical degree from Vadodara, India-based Baroda Medical College. He completed an internship at Oak Lawn, Ill.-based Christ Hospital, a residency at Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship at Tucson-based University of Arizona.

2. He specializes in Barrett's esophagus. He has made several contributions to the field through his use of minimally invasive endoscopic methods.

3. Dr. Sharma will lead the society's educational and research efforts and will organize the biennial World Congress on Esophageal Disease in 2020.
