The AGA Research Foundation recognized Ashish Nimgaonkar, MD, as its researcher of the month.

Four insights:

1. Dr. Nimgaonkar received the AGA-Boston Scientific Career Development Technology and Innovation Award in 2014.

2. He later developed technology to help patients manage complications related to chronic liver disease.

3. Dr. Nimgaonkar is working to earn FDA approval for his device. If successful, he'll pursue manufacturing and commercialization efforts.

4. He is the clinical director of Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design and an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.
