Four stats related to gastroenterologists:
1. Twenty percent of gastroenterologists reported having a net worth above $5 million. They led all specialties. For context, only 3 percent of the U.S. population had a net worth over $1 million in 2018.
2. Thirty-eight percent of gastroenterologists reported having mortgages over $500,000; they were in the middle of the pack. Dermatologists led the pack, with 51 percent reporting having mortgages over $500,000.
3. Gastroenterologists paid off their medical school loans faster than other specialties. Only 14 percent of respondents said they were still paying their medical school loans, while 33 percent of emergency medicine physicians said they were still paying off their loans.
4. Only 16 percent of gastroenterologists reported having a net worth under $500,000.
