2. The research will improve researchers’ understanding of biological mechanisms and could allow researchers to manipulate microbiota to treat several conditions.
3. Dr. Shen’s time as a gastroenterologist inspired his interest in metabolic and nutritional research. He said, “When I learned of the impact that the gut microbiota has on host metabolism, it created an entirely different perspective for me in terms of thinking about how to treat metabolic and nutritional disorders.”
