3 Points on Endoscope Reprocessing

The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates has recently released a series of points to take into consideration for the correct reprocessing of endoscopes, according to an EndoNurse report.

When cleaning and reprocessing endoscopes:
•    Ensure that your staff has the adequate initial training and follow up by conducting annual competency checks
•    Store endoscopes in a vertical position to assist in drying.
•    Track endoscopes though an infection prevention and control program.

A number of organizations suggest endoscopes should be reprocessed every five days, but SGNA has not released its official stance on this.
