Tacoma, Wash.-based Washington Gastroenterology has agreed to pay $4.6 million to settle a class-action lawsuit stemming from a 2024 data breach, according to an Oct. 14 report from Claim Depot.

In March 2025, the practice discovered that certain data was accessed by an unknown third party. Information that was accessed in the incident, which happened in October 2024, includes names, Social Security numbers, financial and banking information, medical information and health insurance details.

More than 583,000 individuals who received notice of the breach are included in the class.

The practice denied any wrongdoing or liability but agreed to settle to avoid the risks and costs of continued litigation, the report said.

Washington Gastroenterology has 19 locations throughout the state, according to its website.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
