15 medications most frequently prescribed by gastroenterologists

Nearly 1.9 million Americans received prescriptions for the proton-pump inhibitor omeprazole, the most frequently prescribed gastroenterology medication in 2021, according to 2022 data from Definitive Healthcare

Here are the 15 most frequently prescribed medications by gastroenterologists and the percentage of total prescriptions: 

1. Omeprazole: 13.2 percent

2. Pantoprazole sodium: 13 percent 

3. Suprep bowel prep: 5.7 percent

4. Famotidine: 4.8 percent

5. Mesalamine: 3.2 percent

6. Dicyclomine hydrochloride: 2.5 percent 

7. Linzess: 2.1 percent

8. Sucralfate: 2 percent

9. Esomeprazole magnesium: 1.7 percent

10. Dexilant: 1.2 percent 

11. Clenpiq: 1.2 percent  

12. Plenvu: 1.1 percent

13. Polyethylene glycol 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate and Potassium Chloride with Lemon Flavor: 1.1 percent

14. Humira: 1.1 percent

15. Ondansetron: 1.1 percent
