Minimum Numbers to Cover Anesthesia Costs
|
Here are some case benchmarks to ensure you cover the costs of your ASC's anesthesia services, according to Thomas Wherry, MD, an anesthesiologist at the Surgery Center of Maryland.
minimum number of anesthesia billable units per day -- 50
average units per case -- 7 to 8
number of cases per room, per day -- 5 to 7
These numbers, of course, will depend on the types of cases your facility performs, and are intended as a basic rule of thumb only. Dr. Wherry presented these statistics at ASCs 2008 in San Antonio.

How to Establish a Collections Goal
|
Here is a formula for establishing a collections goal for your facility, according to Kim Woodruff, vice president of corporate finance for Pinnacle III.
Year-to-date net revenue x Budgeted number of current month's visits = Current month's estimated receivables
Ending A/R + Current month's estimated receivables = Total estimated A/R
Total estimated A/R / Net A/R days year-to-date = Projected A/R days
Projected A/R days - A/R day goal = Excess A/R days
Excess A/R days x Net A/R days year-to-date = Collection goal
