Athens, Tenn.-based Starr Regional Medical Center completed its first implantation of Medtronic’s Micra leadless pacemaker, a device for patients with slow heart rhythms.
The minimally invasive procedure was performed by interventional cardiologist Yasir Akhtar, MD, and the hospital’s cardiac catheterization team. The device is implanted directly into the heart through a catheter, reducing complications and recovery time, according to an Oct. 17 system news release.
The procedure builds on Starr Regional’s cardiovascular service expansion, which included opening a cardiac catheterization lab in 2023.
