Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Cardiology has been awarded chest pain center accreditation with primary percutaneous coronary intervention from the American College of Cardiology, according to a Dec. 11 report from chattanoogan.com.

Chicago-based Endeavor Health Edward Hospital plans to open the first cardiac ASC in the Chicago region at its Naperville-based hospital campus in 2025, according to a Dec. 10 report from the Daily Herald. 

Prime Healthcare Services, the parent company of Reno, Nev.-based Mary's Health Network, has filed a lawsuit against Reno-based Renown Health alleging monopolistic practices for cardiology services, according to a Dec. 11 report from the Reno Gazette Journal.

Here are three cardiology ASCs that are under construction or recently have opened, as reported by Becker's since Nov. 6: 

The highest paid cardiologist in Jacksonville, Fla., earns $732,600, according to Medscape's salary reporter tool, which is much higher than the mean annual wage of $421,330 cardiologists make according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Clinical cardiac electrophysiology specialists are the least common cardiology specialists nationwide, with just under one specialist per every 100,000 U.S. patients, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges' recently launched interactive online dashboard.

Although the balance in cardiology care currently leans toward hospitals, cardiology has become the fastest-growing specialty at ASCs due to multiple factors, according to a blog post from consulting firm VMG Health.
