Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health has added its first full-time electrophysiologist in its South Carolina region.
Mark Liwanag, DO, is seeing patients at Novant Health Heart & Vascular – Physicians Plaza in Hilton Head Island, S.C., according to an April 27 system news release.
The addition expands services at the existing clinic and introduces electrophysiology care for patients in Hilton Head Island and surrounding coastal communities. Electrophysiology focuses on diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, bradycardia and other irregular heartbeats.
Dr. Liwanag is also introducing the FARAPULSE pulsed field ablation system, a device approved in the U.S. for treating atrial fibrillation that is designed to improve procedural precision and reduce damage to surrounding tissue.
