Columbia-based Missouri Heart Center will shut down May 6 as Boone Health moves forward with a new cardiology clinic, NBC affiliate KOMU reported April 27.

Multiple cardiologists, providers and staff from Missouri Heart Center are joining Boone Health Medical Group’s new clinic in Columbia.

The transition follows a legal dispute between the organizations. Boone Health sued Missouri Heart Center, also known as Missouri Cardiovascular Specialists, alleging breach of contract, misuse of confidential information and plans to open a competing cardiology practice in violation of a noncompete agreement.

Missouri Heart Center has provided cardiology services to Boone Health for more than 10 years. A 2016 agreement gave the group exclusive rights to staff the health system’s cardiology service line and manage related operations.

Boone Health will continue contracting with Missouri Heart Center for cardiology services, excluding heart transplants, through May 6 as the transition is completed. The health system has also moved to build its own cardiology team to maintain continuity of care.

The new Boone County cardiology clinic has hired about three dozen employees. Additional details will be shared as plans are finalized, a Boone Health spokesperson told KOMU.
