Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has died at age 71 following a cardiac arrest, according to a July 24 report from ESPN.
Clearwater, Fla., police responded to a cardiac arrest call and Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities confirmed there were no signs of foul play.
Mr. Hogan had faced multiple health challenges in recent years, including chronic back issues related to his wrestling career. His death also highlights the ongoing risks of cardiovascular disease in the U.S., which accounts for nearly 1 in every 3 deaths, according to the CDC.
Cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, is often linked to underlying cardiovascular issues, such as coronary artery disease. Risk increases with age and is compounded by factors like chronic stress, physical strain and untreated medical conditions.
