Mudassar Ahmed, MD, has joined Georgia Heart Institute, part of Gainesville-based Northeast Georgia Health System, as chief cardiology officer.
Dr. Ahmed is an interventional cardiologist who specializes in minimally invasive treatments for heart valve disease, according to a Sept. 2 news release from the health system. He most recently served as system medical director for the cardiovascular service line at Robbinsdale, Minn.-based North Memorial Health. He also helped launch the structural heart program at HealthEast in St. Paul, Minn., and later guided the heart and vascular service line for the Minneapolis-based M Health Fairview/HealthEast system.
He will continue practicing in Gainesville while also providing clinical oversight and physician leadership for the institute, the release said.
