COVID-19 survivors may need heart screening before exercise

 

Survivors of COVID-19 may need heart screening before returning to exercise, according to a Dec. 13 report from NBC.

COVID-19 is linked to heart muscle inflammation and exercising could lead to irregular heartbeats and sudden cardiac death, the report said. The findings were announced at a Dec. 5 sports medicine conference sponsored by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Screening isn't recommended for patients who had mild or asymptomatic cases of COVID-19, the report said.
