Cardiologists losing ground on compensation

Cardiology was one of four physician specialties that saw a decrease in compensation from 2023 to 2024, according to a July 8 Medscape report.

Comparing Your Pay Against Your Peers“: Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2025” surveyed 7,322 physicians across more than 29 specialties between Oct. 3, 2024, and Jan. 15, 2025. 

Dermatology saw the greatest decrease in compensation, dropping 5% between 2023 and 2024. The other three specialties that saw decreases in pay were:

  • Cardiology: 1% decrease
  • Urology: 2% decrease
  • Neurology: 3% decrease
