Joseph Woo, MD, recently took over as the 107th president The American Association for Thoracic Surgery for 2026-27, according to a May 15 social media post by the organization.
Dr. Woo is a cardiothoracic, cardiovascular and transplant surgeon with Stanford (Calif.) Health Care. He serves as a professor and chair of Stanford’s cardiothoracic surgery program and associate director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute.
Dr. Woo previously served as president of the AATS Cardiac Surgery Biology Club and serves on the leadership committee of the American Heart Association’s council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia where he also completed his residency and fellowship.
