West Coast states dominate as top workplaces for nurses

West Coast states are among the most desirable workplaces for registered nurses, according to reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and personal finance website WalletHub.

WalletHub used 21 metrics to create its rankings of best states for nurses to practice, which examined quality of nursing education and the number of open positions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Top five best states for nurses:

1. Oregon
2. Minnesota
3. Washington
4. New Mexico
5. Maine

Top five states for registered nurse salary:

6. California: $106,950
7. Hawaii: $98,080
8. Massachusetts: $92,140
9. Oregon: $91,080
10. Alaska: $89,310
