How income has changed in the past year for orthopedic surgeons, GIs & more

Many physician specialties saw a pay increase in the last year, according to Merritt Hawkins' 2019 review of physician and advanced practitioner recruiting incentives.

How the salaries of five high-earning specialties has changed:

1. Orthopedic surgery
2018/2019 salary: $536,000
2017/2018 salary: $533,000

2. Gastroenterology
2018/2019 salary $495,000
2017/2018 salary: $487,000

3. Neurology
2018/2019 salary $317,000
2017/2018 salary: $301,000

4. Non-invasive cardiology
2018/2019 salary $441,000
2017/2018 salary: $427,000

5. Invasive cardiology
2018/2019 salary: $648,000
2017/2018 salary: $590,000
