Medscape released its 2019 advanced practice registered nurse compensation report.

Medscape field responses from 3,545 APRNs to compile its report, including 2,001 nurse practitioners, 460 certified registered nurse anesthetists, 626 clinical nurse specialists and 458 nurse midwives.

How income compares for employed and independent APRNs:

Employed by a medical group or hospital:
NPs: $109,000
Total APRNs: $118,000

Employed by private practice
NPs: $99,000
Total APRNs: $103,000

Self-employed/independent contractor:
NPs: $108,000
Total APRNs: $124,000
