Average physician compensation stagnates — Which specialties saw an increase? 14 statistics

A new report from PracticeMatch found physician pay has stagnated compared to last year's report.

The report was conducted with M3 Global Research and entailed a survey of 1,959 physicians.

Here are the key details to know:

1. Average annual income for physicians was $321,398 for 2017, compared to $306,389 for 2016.

2. The specialty that saw the greatest salary increase was emergency medicine, which saw a five percent growth from 2016 to 2017.

3. Only one-third of physicians reported they earned more in 2017 than in 2016.

Dermatology: $325,667

Emergency medicine: $306,389

Pulmonology: $281,519
