ASC mergers and acquisitions in 2016 by acquirer type — 4 estimates

The ASC space experienced several significant mergers and acquisitions in the past two years, with Surgery Partners agreeing to acquire National Surgical Healthcare in May 2017 and Envision and Amsurg agreeing to merge in December 2016.

Here four estimates on how many ASC M&A transactions occurred in 2016 by different types of acquirers, from Kaufman Hall's 2017 Industry Flash Report – Ambulatory Surgery Centers

1. Physicians/medical groups: 10
2. Hospitals/health systems: 20 to 30
3. ASC management companies: 50 to 70
4. Estimated total: 80 to 110
