Ambulatory surgery center revenue per case has grown over the past decade in Pennsylvania, but flattened over the past three years, according to the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council's "Financial Analysis 2016: Ambulatory Surgery Centers" annual report.

Here are five things to know:

1. Statewide, Medicare's share of the net patient revenue at ASCs was nearly 25 percent in 2016.

2. Over the past decade, the average ASC revenue per visit increased from $811 in 2007 to $1,147 in 2016. However, over the past three years the increase has stagnated; in 2014, revenue per visit reached its zenith at $1,150, and declined to $1,147 in 2015 and 2016.

3. Overall average outpatient revenue for ASCs also grew over the past decade. In 2007, the average outpatient revenue for ASCs was $715 million and steadily grew to $1.3 billion in 2016.

4. The percentage of outpatient surgeries performed in the ASC decreased over the past five years. In 2012, 30.5 percent of outpatient procedures were performed in ASCs, compared to 26.4 percent in 2016.

5. Overall, the number of ASCs in Pennsylvania has experienced slight growth over the past 10 years. In 2007, there were 226 ASCs in the state, which grew slightly to 286 in 2016. From 2012 to 2016, the number of ASCs fluctuated between 281 and 288.
