1. On average, general surgeons earn $362,000 a year.
2. Male general surgeons earn 20 percent more than women, who earn an average $315,000 annually.
3. Self employed general surgeons earn $386,000 while employed surgeons earn $348,000
4. Fifty-two percent of general surgeons reported they feel fairly compensated, up from 43 percent in Medscape’s 2014 survey.
