15 statistics to know on ASC medical supply, operating costs

VMG Health and HealthCare Appraisers are among several organizations collecting statistics on operating and medical supply costs in ASCs.

Here are 15 statistics to know:

VMG Health's Multi-Specialty ASC Intellimarker 2018 offers insights into 275-plus ASCs around the U.S. with a combined case volume of more than 1.3 million.

Percentage of net operating revenue comprised by drugs and medical supplies in each U.S. region:

1. All facilities: 24.4 percent
2. Atlantic: 25.4 percent
3. Midwest: 22.6 percent
4. Mountain: 26.1 percent
5. Northeast: 21.2 percent
6. Pacific: 24.7 percent
7. South: 23.4 percent

For most ASC companies, 20 percent to 29.9 percent of revenue goes toward salary and benefits expenses, according to HealthCare Appraisers' 2018 ASC Valuation Survey. HealthCare Appraisers surveyed 15 respondents representing more than 700 surgery centers across the U.S. to formulate its results.
